So... how does it work? Is it a reliable source?
If so, it might be a good idea to popularise it.

Let's check it out then. Supposedly AM1 is recorded.

Yup, it's in real time. Nice site.

Very helpful for a fast pricecheck as well. Thanks for the link.

Looks nice but do they have an agreement with Anet or something? How do they do this?

Recognized one of the spams for an Unded Varesh from a few days ago, was being sold alongside a dredge and I bought it.

Seems pretty legitimate. LOVE this.

It's nice to see a certain buyer lowering his price with 5k every minute

There is some kind of botting involved in this for sure, whether packet sniffing, custom client, or just screenshots being taken at regular intervals, analyzed and OCR'd. Well I guess that should be obvious to most of you, but I thought I'd make it clear for the rest.

As long as individual players or people using this service aren't the ones putting their accounts on the line, they have my blessing.

@FoxBat
While i have a few ideas how it might work, i'm not certain on any - so if someone possesses actual knowledge behind it and is even able to recreate it, please enlighten me

Even though it might breach EULA somehow, i hope ANet won't erase it from existence, as it's really handy thing and kudos to the guy who made it. As long as monitoring $ chat in Kamadan is all this script/bot/whatever does, it's harmless and useful.

On a side note, i think the thread might get cleaned up a bit, get OP a tad edited and be moved to PC subforum every moment - if it really works, as i haven't really processed any research on it yet (aka: haven't even bothered to check if it works ).

E: it's a great way to find someone to buy a rare item from, or sell some nice stuff to someone without shouting for hours. Just checked, totally randomly, 'cockatrice' in that database. Two newest shouts:
Quote:
(11/11/2010 11:28:06) Kobrakai Martyr : WTS Q9 20/10 COCKATRICE EARTH STAFF PM
(19/10/2010 14:23:30) X Lord Of The War X : WTB[Cockatrice r9 Earth Staff][PM]!!!
Despite them being a month after each other, it looks funny.

Not to mention, if packet sniffing is involved, I wonder just how "private" Guild and Alliance are from prying eyes not to mention Whispers, lol.

Even if it does work I'm pretty sure it'd have to edit something in guild wars files... so imo no one should try it, unless they don't mind getting banned.

It's a very nice idea but I don't like that the character names are included - way to keep track of all those accounts with high value items on them! Removing all characters between $ and the first : would sit a lot better with me. (Yes I know that the info could be obtained quite easily from in game but it still seems wrong to record it and publicise it like this.)

@Smarty:
Downside - if someone happens to get your e-mail and decides to bruteforce your account, he might - just might - get your character name out of that database; how he would connect the e-mail and the character, just from the database, assuming he got your e-mail somehow, is beyond me.
Upside - one can search the database for someone who spammed WTS/WTB XYZ recently and then pm him in game to buy/sell XYZ much faster and more conveniently.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about that. My initial reaction was the same as yours. If the purpose of the site is for pure price-check purposes, character names totally don't belong there. Though it would be nice to see some sort of replacement identification so one could track how certain traders modify the values of their items over time.

However, what makes this info dangerous in the hands of hackers/scammers is what makes it useful to the honest people wanting to make a fair trade -- you don't have to be in the same district with someone at the moment they are. You could whisper them later and see if the item is still available. On the other hand, that's what forum trade is for. But since no other character/account/player information is made available, I'm not sure what a hacker/scammer could really benefit from it that they couldn't benefit from just by watching the trade-spam in-game. Except for the ability to compile/manipulate the info.

Ehh, like I said, I'm on the fence.
